What is the minimum height of a sign?

The placement, height, and lateral locations of signs are found in the MUTCD in Section 2A.16. Figure 2A-2 shows the different configurations of sign heights. The height of signs in general will depend on whether it is in an urban area with pedestrians or in a rural area where pedestrians are less likely to encounter the sign.  In Urban areas, the minimum height is 7 feet, while in rural areas the minimum height is 5 feet. The dimension is to the bottom of the sign.
