Utilizing waste products as a surface pavement
Question:
Do you have experience utilizing waste products, such as steel slag, as a surface pavement?
Answer:
Almost every waste product has been used in pavement construction, including glass, rubber, and steel slag. The Federal Highway Administration has guidelines for the use of waste and byproducts in pavement construction that can be used to help get started.
The percentage of product used should be limited, and there needs to be a full set of tests for quality. For instance, slag may absorb more asphalt than typical coarse aggregate.
