Sprayed brine on the salt pile

Question: We sprayed brine on the salt pile and it crusted up the pile, does that always happen?

Answer: The answer would be yes for just spraying the pile. In the case where brine is injected into a pile it either has to be mixed in or injected in a series of locations. This would be done usually with a calcium or magnesium chloride mixture or one of the carbohydrate additives. Below is a picture showing the injection of calcium chloride into a salt pile to give it a slightly lower freezing point.
