Where can I find information on performing simple traffic studies for items such as stop sign placement or traffic counts?
There are two documents we would recommend reviewing. The first is a Handbook of Simplified Practice for Traffic Studies done by our colleagues in Iowa. We like this Handbook because it has good descriptions and some blank forms (look in the appendices).
The other is our Traffic Sign Handbook (https://cornell.box.com/clrp-pb-tsh) which outlines the basic needs for various traffic signs and has some specific guidance for several items including sight distance needs for a yield or stop sign (see pages 23-25). That guidance works even if there is a skew in the intersection.
