Do I have to think about conflicts of interest when hiring engineering consultants?

A: To determine potential conflicts of interest, an evaluation of professional, and ethical standards can be of assistance. Like many professions, there is a code of ethics that must be followed by professional civil engineers. The code of ethics is developed and maintained by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

The ASCE Code of Ethics includes sections related to their Engineer’s Ethical Obligation to Society, the Built and Natural Environment, the Profession, Clients, Employers, and Peers. The ASCE Code of Ethics can be reviewed at the following website: https://www.asce.org/-/media/asce-images-andfiles/career-and-growth/ethics/documents/ascecode-ethics.pdf.
