Are date and initial stickers required on all signs as opposed to just stop signs?
While it is not required, it is recommended that stickers be used on all signs for several reasons:
- They allow the agency to know when the sign was placed in case there is a crash and the timing of when the sign was placed comes up in the investigation;
- They can be used as part of an overall replacement program (especially useful in managing retroreflectivity);
- They can reduce vandalism (see figure page 47 of workshop manual);
- They help assure compliance with changes in the standard. For instance, the stop ahead text signs were supposed to be replaced by 2015 (https://www.clrp.cornell.edu/q-a/024-old_signs.html). A sticker would allow the agency to know when the sign was placed to see if there is a compliance issue.
